Translator (part-time)

Mabis Iaith

 

Mabis Iaith provides written translation and proofreading services on behalf of businesses and organisations of all sizes in a variety of sectors. Mabis has been providing written translation and proofreading services on a commercial basis for ten years, and we are looking to further develop our portfolio of services.

 

Aim of the Role

 

To provide and co-ordinate translation and proofreading services on behalf of Menter a Busnes and Mabis clients.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Receiving, allocating and returning translation work to Mabis Iaith clients

  • Translating papers, reports, factsheets, leaflets, specifications, articles and any other

  • various documents on behalf of all Menter a Busnes' departments as required

  • Proofreading written work completed by external translators carefully, ensuring

  • accuracy and quality

  • Proofreading publications prior to print/publication

  • Coordinating and processing translation requests, ensuring that all enquiries are managed effectively on the internal system within agreed timescales

  • Using translation memory software and assisting the senior translator in maintaining quality and accuracy by updating the memory as required

  • Advising Menter a Busnes Staff on matters regarding translation and copywriting,

  • including enquiries regarding grammar and specialist terms

  • Maintaining up to date information on matters relating to translation and attending

  • any relevant training

  • Maintaining a database of internal and external translation work, and collating information to enable the senior translator to create a quarterly report on the work completed

 

Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Educated to degree level

  • Demonstrable experience working in a relevant field

  • Basic membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru (the association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters) (translation from English to Welsh and from Welsh to English) or a willingness to work towards the standard within a given timescale

  • Practical experience of translating from Welsh to English and vice versa

  • Specialist knowledge of both the Welsh and English languages in order to complete

  • accurate translations, with an understanding of the requirements/terms relating to the material

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to convey information clearly

  • Excellent proofreading skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work together with staff, other

  • translators and Mabis Iaith clients

  • Ability to complete accurate translations in both languages, maintaining quality and a high standard in every aspect of the process

  • Excellent coordination and administrative skills

  • Excellent bilingual verbal and written communication skills (Welsh/English)

  • High level IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, translation memory software, E-mail and the Internet

  • Self-motivated and able to manage workloads, taking responsibility for setting and reviewing

  • work priorities effectively within tight timescales, with a clear focus on quality

  • Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team

  • Ability to store data in line with relevant data protection legislation

 

Desirable

  • Full membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru (Welsh to English and English to Welsh)

  • Knowledge of the principles of bilingual copywriting, from the initial brief through to the final product, coordinating all aspects of the process

  • Experience of creating and implementing marketing campaigns

  • Full driving license and the use of a car
