SMS Support Service Coordinator

Sustainable Management Scheme (SMS)

 

The Welsh Government’s Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme - Sustainable Management Scheme (SMS) is designed to support the delivery of the Welsh Government’s commitment to the sustainable management of natural resources.  SMS provides financial support for a range of collaborative landscape scale activities including traditional and more innovative actions as well as partnership development. 

 

The Scheme aims to improve our natural resources and the services these provide and in doing so contribute to the well-being of our rural communities. The SMS draws directly from the approach set out in the Environment Act (Wales) 2016 and steers projects to address the Natural Resources Policy priorities as well as local level opportunities and challenges to deliver lasting social and economic benefits to rural communities.  

 

The Scheme encourages the implementation of nature based solutions and supports a collaborative approach rather than single applicants.  These collaborative projects are required to take action to improve the resilience of the ecosystems in their areas so that they may continue to provide a range of social, economic and environmental benefits now and in the future. 

 

Aim of the Role

 

The primary aim of the proposed Support Service is to enable and encourage new collaborations and partnerships to develop project ideas and apply to the remaining funding available.

The SMS Support Service Coordinator, will be responsible for being the main point of contact to a team of self-employed facilitators  ensuring that all paper work and supporting evidence is submitted accurately and timely.

The role will also include providing administrative and financial support to Farming Connect as directed by line manager.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the SMS project with support from FC Operations Manager

  • Be the main point of contact to a team of self-employed facilitators, building productive working relationship

  • Process payment of facilitators, ensuring that no group exceeds  their allocated budget

  • Ensure all group information is input accurately to the relevant IT systems

  • Collate information for monthly reports

  • Oversee the evaluation process for the service

  • Keep detailed records of all activities and paperwork to facilitate monitoring and achievement of project targets, in compliance with the project’s and Welsh Government’s reporting and monitoring systems

  • Prepare statistics and reports on request

  • Organise training / meeting days as required

  • Feedback any issues arising from the delivery of the service and participate in the evaluation of the project

  • Represent SMS Support Service, in-line with the requirements of Welsh Government and Contract Manager, by attending relevant group meetings/committees,

  • Provide reliable and effective office support

  • Signpost to other services available

  • Deal with ad-hoc requests by farmers / members of the public

  • Attend training as required

  • Provide administrative and financial support to Farming Connect

 

Other

  • Ensure standards for quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity are met

  • Accept other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required

  • Represent Menter a Busnes as required

  • Availability to work during evenings and weekends as required

Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Educated to NVQ level 3 or above or experience of working in a related field

  • Excellent bilingual (Welsh / English) oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Able to deal and respond effectively and efficiently to queries

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Able to be proactive and drive things forward effectively, both independently and as part of a team

  • Full driving licence and use of a car

 

Desirable

  • Excellent financial skills
