Service Centre Assistant (temporary) x 3

Farming Connect is a high profile, integrated project which supplies focussed training, support and advice, delivered through a pan-Wales programme of knowledge transfer activities, specialist advice and support for innovation. A key objective is to increase the emphasis on business-focused behaviour, therefore improving profitability, competitiveness and environmental performance of farm, forestry and food businesses in Wales. 

Farming Connect is funded through the Rural Development Plan 2014 - 2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.


Aim of the Role

To support the Service Centre Co-ordinators in order to ensure that all enquiries are referred to the appropriate team member promptly and that data is inputted accurately into the BOSS/BAS/CMS.


Main Responsibilities

  • Receive and deal with telephone enquiries efficiently
  • Deal with enquiries from customers and co-ordinators either by email, post or telephone
  • Refer all enquiries to the relevant team members where appropriate
  • Keep a record of enquiries including details of the team member clients are referred to
  • Data input into the BAS/CMS/BOSS
  • Maintain customer profiles and ensure that they comply with Data Protection and Welsh Government regulations
  • Carry out follow-up actions when required to ensure that all required details of customers are entered into the system
  • Obtain written consent from customers if this has not already been submitted
  • Deal with applications for the Skills Service and for the Advisory Service and carry out the checks
  • Notify customers using the Advisory Service and Skills Service of their approval
  • Notify Advisors and Development Officers of approval of services to customers
  • Support the Service Centre Co-ordinators with the collation of all evidence for the Advisory Service and Skills Service activity against each customer
  • Occasionally represent Farming Connect at events when required
  • Support relevant Farming Connect teams with general administration activities
  • Enable integration across all aspect of the Farming Connect Programme by promoting all Farming Connect activities and events wherever possible



  • Ensure standards for quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity are met
  • Accept other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required
  • Represent Menter a Busnes as required


Skills and Experience


  • Educated to a minimum NVQ level 3 or equivalent, and /or demonstrable work experience in a relevant field
  • Excellent general administrative and interpersonal skills
  • IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Databases, Email and the Web
  • Excellent spoken and written bilingual communication skills
  • Able to input data correctly and keep data in compliance with relevant data protection laws
  • Excellent organisation, co-ordinating and time management skills
  • Accurate bilingual written skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • A good understanding or experience of agriculture / rural sector
  • Progressive and enthusiastic about the work of the Rural Department
  • Able to be proactive and to drive things forward efficiently
  • Able to carry on with own work as well as being a part of a team



  • Experience of working with The Welsh Government’s Business Account System and/or a client management system/database
  • Knowledge of the Farming Connect programme
