Project Manager - Seafood Market Development

Background

 

The Seafood Market Development project is an innovative initiative developed in partnership between Menter a Busnes and Seafish.

Seafood Market Development Project will achieve these following objectives:

  1. Develop Welsh Seafood’s Unique Selling Points

  2. Develop the Brand

  3. Act by launching the brand and provide support to the industry through packages of support

Funding has been received from the European Maritime and Fisheries fund to deliver the project up to October 2021.  The Project delivers the EMFF UK Operational Programme, Welsh Government and Welsh seafood industry priorities (as described in the Wales.

Funding has been sought from the European Maritime and Fisheries fund 2014 – 2020 to deliver a 4-year project. The Project will deliver EMFF UK Operational Programme, Welsh Government and Welsh seafood industry priorities (as described in the Wales Seafood Strategy.

 

Aim of the Role

  • To lead and manage all aspects of the project delivery with a view of developing the market for Welsh Seafood domestically and internationally; along with assisting seafood businesses to find new markets and improve marketing conditions.

  • Managing resources effectively and developing the skills and capacity of the project team and beneficiaries will be key, as will be a vision and passion for increasing the consumption and awareness of Welsh Seafood.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage the project’s work streams, ensuring targets are achieved and

  • the service is of the highest standard

  • Lead, manage, and develop the project delivery team

  • Manage sub-contractors providing a service to the programme, including monitoring performance to ensure quality of service

  • Manage and maintain effective and professional working relationships with the project delivery partner, Seafish, and the Seafish Wales Advisory Committee, ensuring effective implementation of the project and working practices

  • Lead on the seafood sector’s work within Menter a Busnes, taking responsibility for ensuring a coordinated approach to delivery with the Cywain project

  • Procure external services as required in-line with company Procurement Policy

  • Manage the projects’ budget whilst ensuring value for money

  • Effectively plan, develop, implement and manage an integrated marketing campaign that is innovative and interactive across a range of platforms

  • Work closely with other team members to plan, manage and professionally execute a portfolio of events and exhibitions, both locally and nationally, ensuring a relevant and engaging content schedule

  • Continually test, measure and evaluate the programme’s marketing campaign, ensuring that reports are created and distributed to the relevant stakeholders

  • Maintain awareness of developments in the field by identifying any further opportunity for the project

  • Forge strong links with relevant organisations and institutions and leading experts in order to identify the latest information and research work as well as added value collaborative opportunities for the project

  • Disseminate information, research findings and programme content to the team, whilst adapting the delivery as required

  • Represent the project by attending relevant committees/groups, identifying ways of collaborating with other organisations to improve the overall service provision.  Regularly inform key networks of project progress

  • Accurately monitor, review and report on outputs, expenditure and performance in-line with the EMFF scheme requirements, including the creation and maintenance of effective management systems in order to satisfy relevant audit requirements

  • Ensure that Welsh Government requirements are met in the claiming of finance, ensuring the provision of accurate financial information and supporting evidence

  • Attend contract review meetings with Welsh Government as required and agreed by the Project Director

  • Oversee an effective evaluation programme

Other

  • Ensure standards for quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity are met

  • Accept other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required

  • Represent Menter a Busnes as required

 

Skills and Experience 

Essential

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in agriculture, food marketing or related subject

  • A formal management qualification and/or demonstrable experience at a strategic management level

  • Demonstrable experience of working in the agri-food or seafood sector in Wales

  • Thorough knowledge of the seafood sector in Wales, with the ability to identify the latest information and research work relevant to the sector

  • Able to disseminate themes, research findings and programme content in a practical and clear manner relevant to the audience

  • Recent experience of working with organisations in the seafood sector

  • Strong awareness of seafood policy development, Welsh Government strategies and policies and the work undertaken by Food and Drink Wales

  • Able to effectively monitor performance, taking prompt and professional action, as necessary, to remedy issues identified

  • An understanding of marketing and communications principles and applications

  • Well-developed networks at a strategic level, along with experience of fostering strategic collaborative relationships with other services/organisations

  • Effective financial planning and management skills, ensuring the timely and cost- effective expenditure of budgets

  • Able to develop and integrate new services in an effective and timely manner

  • Able to make difficult and timely decisions for the benefit of the business and/or service, including raising appropriate concerns regarding service delivery, budgets and staff/sub-contractors

  • A self-motivator, accepting responsibility for setting and reviewing priorities for achieving targets, with a clear focus on quality

  • Excellent oral and written bilingual (Welsh/English) communication skills*

  • Advanced standard of IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, Databases and Internet

  • Full driving licence and use of a car (the role will involve travel across Wales)

 

*Applications will be considered where applicants hold an Entry level of oral and written bilingual (Welsh/English) communication skills and whom are committed to reaching an Intermediate level, with support from the Menter a Busnes and within a timeframe agreed by the Company.
