Marketing Officer

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a project in the vibrant Welsh food and drink industry which is crucial to the growth of the Welsh economy.




Cywain, delivered by Menter a Busnes, is a model providing targeted support to micro and SME businesses operating in the Welsh food and drink sector. We have received funding hrough the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. Project funding has been secured until October 2022.


Support provision is in place to develop the capacity and capability of businesses, facilitate knowledge transfer and industry intelligence and strengthen supply chain integration. Delivery is pan Wales with an emphasis on collaboration with businesses which add value and market development for growth and job creation. Cywain has developed a wide network of stakeholders and integral to the client development is a coherent approach with other delivery partners.


There are three strands to the project:

  • Support for start-up and micro businesses

  • Diagnostic support available to all businesses within the food and drink sector in Wales

  • Clustering and collaboration between businesses to promote business growth and efficiency


The Aim of the Role


To support the Marketing and Events Team Leader in producing and implementing the marketing and communication plan from day to day, with a specific focus on supporting external communication with key stakeholders. The successful applicant will be flexible and able to adapt to any marketing and communication activities as required, based on research, changes to the market and/or in response to external factors.


Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Events Team Leader to create a marketing scheme for the project

  • Develop the project’s brand and identity; choosing and developing relevant communication channels

  • Manage social media channels and producing copy for the project website

  • Contribute towards the achievement of the programme’s marketing and communications targets, ensuring that the service provided is of the highest standard

  • Assist in designing, implementing and evaluating the programme’s marketing and communication activities

  • Write and edit copy, ensuring that all press releases, digital/social campaigns in the media, including web-based media and printed publications, including factsheets, technical publications and articles, are produced correctly and in a timely manner, in line with the guidelines of those financing the work

  • Proofread copy conscientiously, ensuring that any mistakes or queries about grammar, spelling, punctuation, style and/or accuracy are identified and corrected, as well as ensuring the provision and consistent communication of the project brand

  • Maintain a library of the project’s publications

  • Assist in the implementation of a portfolio of events and exhibitions in a professional manner, both locally and nationally, thus securing an engaging and relevant timetable of content

  • Collaborate with the local media, regionally and nationally, dealing with enquiries as required

  • Undertake specific market research tasks and providing guidance to external contractors

  • Work with the Marketing and Events Team Leader to supervise the management of sub-contractors who provide a marketing and communication service for the programme

  • Test, measure and evaluate the programme’s marketing and communications activities continuously, thus ensuring that reports are created and distributed to the relevant stakeholders

  • Monitor, review and report communication and marketing outputs, expenditure and performance in line with the requirements of the programme, including the creation and maintenance of effective management systems in order to satisfy the relevant Audit requirements



  • Ensuring that standards for quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity are met

  • Accepting other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required

  • Representing Menter a Busnes as required


Skills and Experience


  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a relevant subject such as marketing, communication, business or similar field, or demonstrable work experience in a marketing, communication and/or events role.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the agriculture, food and drink sectors in Wales

  • Demonstrable experience of assisting with the effective development, implementation and evaluation of integrated marketing and communication plans

  • Extensive experience of writing clear, correct and detailed copy for print and/or digital publications which is relevant to the audience and within specific guidelines

  • Excellent proofreading skills

  • Experience of updating web content

  • Well-developed networks with the media in Wales

  • Able to test, measure and evaluate marketing and communication activities effectively

  • Experience of producing clear, correct and detailed reports relevant to the audience

  • Excellent research skills with the ability to analyse the brief, complete research projects and write research reports

  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines

  • Able to motivate oneself creatively and accepting the responsibility for setting and reviewing priorities to complete targets with a clear focus on quality

  • Work well as a member of a team with a proactive attitude and the confidence to take the lead and guide other staff where required

  • Excellent verbal and written bilingual (Welsh/English) communication skills

  • Higher level IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, databases and the internet

  • A full driving licence and the use of a car




  • A relevant professional qualification, such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification

  • Experience of organising exhibitions and events

  • Demonstrable experience of working in the agriculture, food and drink industry in Wales
