Data Analyst

Cywain

 

Cywain, delivered by Menter a Busnes is a model providing targeted support to micro and SME businesses operating in the Welsh food and drink sector. We have received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020. Project funding has been secured until October 2022.

 

Support provision is in place to develop the capacity and capability of businesses, facilitate knowledge transfer and industry intelligence and strengthen supply chain integration. Delivery is pan Wales with an emphasis on collaboration with businesses which add value and market development for growth and job creation. Cywain has developed a wide network of stakeholders and integral to the client development is a coherent approach with other delivery partners.

 

Aim

  • To provide the Project Manager and Welsh Government with qualitative and quantitative information as required regarding a number of aspects of the project through our Client Management System (Salesforce) and our diagnostic software, including project performance against targets and trends within business data

  • To analyse data from secondary sources mainly within the food and drink sector such as Mintel and Kantar, to identify new trends, new business opportunities and the needs of buyers and consumers

  • To provide market research reports for businesses   

 

As well as supporting the team, the post holder will be required to support the Project Manager to ensure that the aims and objectives of the project are met. We are looking for a proactive person, with the ability to motivate and solve problems, along with provide guidance on day to day matters relating to project development and service delivery based on solid evidence.

 

Main Responsibilities  

 

Data Analysis

  • Analyse current, accurate and relevant data and presenting findings in report and visual data form to assist with planning the Cywain project and decision making

  • Respond to the data requirements of the Project Manager and Welsh Government as required

  • Respond to the needs and data requests from businesses, clients and/or colleagues, ensuring a prompt service of the highest standard

  • Supervise the standard of data inputted into the Salesforce system and the diagnostic software, raising any quality concerns with the Team Leaders and/or Project Manager

  • Develop a strategy and action plan to ensure the cooperation of the team in order to meet performance and quality requirements

  • Act as the main point of contact with the company that has developed the diagnostic software

  • Regularly disseminate information regarding the project’s performance and trends against qualitative and quantitative targets

  • Check quality control standards

  • Foresee the demand for the project’s services and communicate any concerns and/or reasons for change to the Project Manager

 

Service Delivery

  • Ensure the delivery of innovative services for small and medium enterprises with the desire to grow, that will introduce them to potential new markets

  • Foster a close relationship with the rest of the Cywain team in order to identify the business needs of producers and processors

  • Work with project staff, producer groups and individuals to identify the need for new products and markets

  • Continue to develop knowledge and understanding of other specialisms ensuring a holistic service for the customer; with a commitment to undertake any necessary research, learning and development to meet these needs

  • Ensure that we subscribe to the relevant data sources; ensure prompt response to any data/research requests; fully familiarise with the project’s diagnostic software and the CRM system 

 

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Keep detailed records of every activity and paperwork in order to monitor and meet the project’s targets in line with the recording and monitoring systems of the project and Welsh Government

  • Produce monthly progress reports for the Project Manager

  • Comply with the financial and procurement requirements of the project, adhering to the programme’s procurement guidelines

 

Other

  • Ensure standards for quality, customer service, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity are met

  • Accept other reasonable duties and responsibilities, and input into related food assignments undertaken by Menter a Busnes as required

  • Represent Menter a Busnes as required

 

Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in mathematics, economics / business, statistical analysis or related subject

  • Demonstrable experience of completing research projects using various data sources

  • Ability to identify the latest information and research relevant to the food and drink sector in Wales

  • Ability to assess and clearly understand clients’ needs and support them with their requests for information and research

  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to develop creative solutions

  • Comprehensive report writing skills based on qualitative and quantitative data and the ability to present information accurately and strongly, including communicating technical information to people who are not very technical in a clear and concise manner

  • Strong interpretation and analytical skills, and the ability to use and evaluate broad datasets to produce accurate information to a high standard

  • Self-motivated and flexible person that is able to manage a number of tasks at the same time and work under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Able to work as an individual in a structured and analytical manner, as well as working as part of a team

  • Clear presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent bilingual (Welsh/English) communication skills

  • High level IT skills including Microsoft packages, databases and the web

  • Full driving license and the use of a car (the role could mean travelling across Wales)

  • Available to work evenings and weekends occasionally

 

Desirable

  • Understanding and/or experience relevant to the food and drink sector in Wales

  • Awareness of policy development, as well as Welsh Government strategies and policies

  • Good understanding or experience of working with the private sector

  • Project management experience
