Exactly a year ago, an innovative Conwy Valley farmer planted a wheat crop for the very first time, and is now celebrating by tasting wholemeal bread and digestive biscuits made by his local bakery using his own wheat grain milled flour. As the tasty products are launched, Cywain*, a Menter a Busnes added product value project, is working with the team to market and promote the locally produced wheat products. “Because of the area’s climate, wheat isn’t traditionally grown in the Conwy Valley,” Cywain Development Manager, Alwen Eidda explains. “Here at Cywain we’ve certainly not heard of a farmer who’s followed the whole

Private Consultations: Developing and adding value to your agricultural produce Farming Connect will be co-ordinating one-to-one consultations with Cywain development managers at the Winter Fair.  Cywain facilitates collaboration between producers, processors and retailers and is able to offer expert advice and mentoring. Farmers will be able to discuss their ideas for developing and adding value to their primary produce and can seek advice on finding new markets. The Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival Fringe will provide a showcase for new and smaller food producers, local crafters, makers and artists, sustainable enterprises, community talent, and will be a nice place to relax on what promises to be a busy weekend in Cowbridge.   A marquee for live music, talks, café and seating will be located in the Old Hall Gardens, with additional stalls in the grounds and college annexes, plus the entertainment zone put on by Cowbridge Comprehensive pupils. Do you have an interest in local food? Are you a restaurant or retailer looking for a local supply, do you blog about local food, do you book food stalls for events? Would you like to visit Cowbridge and support new food producers/products at the Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival Fringe 2013? We are looking for 8 ‘dignitaries’ (use of the term is loose!!) to tour the 10 new food producers/products that have been supported by Cywain to take part in this years’ food fringe.
