Cywain brings record number of new producers to the Royal Welsh Show

A record number of small and up and coming food and drink producers will be making their debut at the Royal Welsh Show Food Hall (July 24-27th) thanks to agri-food support project, Cywain.

 

Over the four days of the Show, 16 producers will be setting up stall in the Food Hall for the very first time with products ranging from truffles and honey vinegar to scotch eggs and spring water.

 

The producers will be featured under the auspices of Cywain – a project which supports the development of new markets in the agri-food sector.

 

The Food Hall is one of the most popular features of the Royal Welsh Show with tens of thousands of people visiting it to taste and buy an array of Welsh produce, and it therefore affords small companies a tremendous opportunity to showcase themselves and their products to a huge audience.

 

The opportunity to attend events such as the Royal Welsh Show is part of a wide range of structured support offered by Cywain.

 

Said Cywain Manager, Myrddin Davies, “Cywain helps small food and drink producers to develop their potential, and it is excellent to see some of our clients now branching out with own stands in the Food Hall. Our aim is to give our clients the tools with which to grow their enterprises.”

 

A number of producers joining the new-look Cywain stand at this year’s Royal Welsh Show will also see their products on display in the Welsh Government’s Trade Lounge in the Food Hall.

 

Added Myrddin Davies, “We have a record number of producers joining the Cywain stand this year, and we look forward to them showcasing their products to a wide audience. The Royal Welsh serves two purposes in providing direct feedback from members of the public as well as an opportunity to engage with trade buyers.”

For some producers the Royal Welsh Show will also be the first oppportunity to reveal their new products to the public.

 

On Monday, Wenallt Hive will unveil its Honey Vinegar – a, innovative product new to the UK market. Ideal as a food and salad dressing it takes 18 months to produce.

 

Tuesday will see one of two farmers selling raw milk on the stand during the week. Believed to be a first for the Food Hall, Grosmont Farm, near Abergavenny will be offering raw milk and milkshakes. They will be followed on Wednesday by fellow raw milk dairy brand Penlan y Môr.

 

Wednesday will also see North Wales farmers group Ffermydd Teuluol trading its range of burgers and meatballs. This follows a successful sampling exercise with Cywain at last year’s Royal Welsh Show.
