Farming Connect


Farming Connect is a high profile, integrated project which supplies focussed training, support and advice, pan-Wales with an extensive programme of knowledge transfer activities, specialist advice and support for innovation. A key objective is to focus on the business element, therefore improving profitability, competitiveness and environmental performance of farm, forestry and food businesses in Wales. 


Farming Connect is funded through the Rural Development Plan (RDP) 2014 - 2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.


Aim of the Role

  • To plan, provide and coordinate content for the central website.

  • Update the EMS (events management system).

  • Assist the Agriculture Officer in marketing the Gwaredu BVD Scheme


Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Marketing and Communications Manager to deliver Farming Connect’s online marketing strategy

  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team

  • Plan and coordinate web content for the Farming Connect website

  • Communicate with the Lot 2 contractor to ensure that Farming Connect’s online presence is integrated and simplified

  • Be responsible for the website’s content management system, adding any resources such as images, documents and videos as required

  • Manage the process of loading content provided by the Marketing and Communications team onto the website

  • Ensure that the content is accurate, varied, interesting and engaging

  • Be responsible for loading content onto the EMS (events management system)

  • Run web activity reports, and present to senior staff as required

  • Evaluate and discuss potential improvements or new developments with our web developer

  • Ensure that the web content is accurate and up to date

  • Be responsible for ensuring that all digital content provided complies with the Welsh Government’s Online Publishing Policy

  • Ensure that accurate content for the Gwaredu BVD programme is loaded onto the Farming Connect website

  • Collaborate with the Gwaredu BVD programme to create and provide marketing materials as required



  • Ensure that customer service, quality, equality and diversity, health and safety and biosecurity standards are met

  • Accept any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required

  • Represent Menter a Busnes as required


Skills and Experience

  • Educated to at least NVQ level 3 or above and/or demonstrable work experience in a related field

  • Creative talent and a proactive, flexible approach to all aspects of the work

  • Excellent organisation, time management and general administrative skills

  • Able to maintain quality and consistency whilst working to tight deadlines

  • Excellent bilingual skills, both verbal and written

  • Good standard of bilingual communication skills with experience of writing web content

  • Advanced level IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, E-mail and Databases

  • Experience of creating clear, accurate and detailed reports relevant to the audience

  • Experience of working with website content management systems

  • Knowledge and experience of traditional marketing methods

  • Experience of identifying and managing content development and publishing

  • Understanding of analytical evaluation tools across all online activities

  • Works well as a member of a team with a proactive attitude and the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees as required (i.e. developing content, creating and editing content and online reputation management)

  • Excellent technological knowledge and the ability to learn to use new tools quickly

  • Able to accurately input and maintain data in compliance with relevant data protection legislation

  • Self-motivated, accepting responsibility for setting and reviewing priorities to achieve personal objectives, taking consumer needs into consideration

  • Good understanding of the agriculture/rural sector

  • Proactive and enthusiastic over the work of the Rural Department

  • Able to be proactive and drive thinks forward efficiently

  • Able to continue with your own work as well as being part of a team

  • Full driving license and the use of a car


  • Knowledge of the Farming Connect programme

  • An understanding of key processes in website development and infrastructure and/or experience of working closely with website developers
