Marketing and Research Officer (part time)

Background

 

The purpose of the project is to support small food, drink and land based producers in the counties of Bridgend, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Monmouthshire, Newport, Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan to work together and develop collaborative projects.

 

The project will be a catalyst to increase the participation of producers and encourage them to take part in project activities, where they would be supported to form collaborative clusters to create specific projects that will provide further business opportunities. Businesses are supported to develop their capacity, facilitate the transfer of knowledge and industry intelligence as well as reinforce integration within the supply chain. The emphasis will be on collaboration, adding value and developing projects.

 

The scheme is funded through the Welsh Government's Rural Communities - the 2014-2020 Rural Development Programme, and the lead body is Bridgend County Borough Council.

 
 

Aim of the Role

 
Support the Project Manager to compile and deliver the marketing and communications plan, with a particular focus on supporting external communications. Co-ordinate specific research projects with businesses, organisations and providers that work within the food, drink and land based sectors - this includes desk and primary research. Oversee any marketing and research work carried out by external contractors.
 
 
 
 

Main Responsibilities

 
  • Work with the Project Manager to create a marketing plan for the project

  • Develop the project brand and identity; choosing and developing the most appropriate communication channels

  • Manage the project’s social media channels and to create copy for the project’s website

  • Contribute to the achievement of the programme’s marketing, communications and research targets, ensuring the service provided is of the highest standard

  • Assist with the design, implementation and evaluation of the programme’s marketing, communications and research activities

  • Write and edit copy, ensuring the timely and accurate production of press releases, social/digital media campaigns, web content and print publications, including factsheets and technical publications and articles, according to contract guidelines

  • Diligently proof-read copy, ensuring any errors or queries regarding grammar, spelling, punctuation, style and/or accuracy are detected and rectified, in addition to ensuring the consistent delivery and communication of the project brand

  • Maintain a library of the project’s publications

  • Assist with the professional execution of a portfolio of events and exhibitions, both locally and nationally, ensuring a relevant and engaging content schedule 

  • Liaise with the media locally, regionally and nationally, dealing with enquires as required

  • Complete specific market research tasks and providing relevant guidance to external contractors.

Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a relevant subject such as marketing, communications, business or a similar field, or 3 years’ experience in a marketing, communications and/or events role

  • Knowledge and understanding of the agricultural and food sectors in Wales

  • Demonstrable experience of assisting with the effective development, implementation and evaluation of integrated marketing and communications plans  

  • Broad experience of writing clear, accurate and detailed copy for print and/or digital publications which is relevant to the audience and within specific guidelines

  • Exceptional proof-reading skills

  • Experience of updating web content

  • Well-developed networks with the media in Wales

  • Able to effectively test, measure and evaluate marketing and communications activities

  • Experience of producing clear, correct and detailed reports which are relevant to the audience

  • Excellent research skills with the ability to analyse research briefs, complete research projects and to write research reports

  • Excellent organisational and co-ordinating skills, with the ability to work towards tight deadlines

  • A creative self-motivator, accepting responsibility for setting and reviewing priorities for achieving targets, with a clear focus on quality

  • A team player with a proactive attitude and the confidence to take charge and lead other workers when required

  • Exceptional oral and written bilingual (Welsh/English) communication skills

  • Advanced standard of IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, Databases and Internet

  • Full driving licence and use of a car

 

Desirable

  • Hold a related professional qualification such as Chartered Institute of Marketing

  • Demonstrable experience within a management role

  • Experience of organising events and exhibitions

  • Demonstrable experience of working either in the agricultural, food or land based industries in Wales
